Wine night, Havelock

Hi all, no..... I'm not missing, still here, just busy with life and kids and personal ventures (exciting ones, that I do hope to share soon)  I'm still in love with photographing people and weddings too, but with the last few months being winter, well.... not much like that happening for me here yet.  We've settled in up here in Marlborough now, but always seem busy, or is it the country lifestyle.... maybe I just got used to being in town and hiding away rather than out and about in nature and animals like I am here on the farm!

Anyway.................................... Last week I had a last minute invite to join a friend (thank you Sarah) at a wine night held at the Captains Daughter in Havelock.

Wow, what an amazing night of good food and amazing wines to sample, plus the bonus of meeting new friends and people from around the area.

Five wines are brought along by a different winery each month to be sampled while the local chefs at the restaurant pair them with some amazing foods.

I'd been told of this amazing experience not long after arriving back in the area, but I never pushed myself to go along.  I feel I've done myself a great disservice missing out on the monthly samplings of food and wine!

We had Brett, one of the wine makers from Nautilus Estate of Marlborough for September and I definitely plan to do this again next month... (I might even attempt to get a babysitter and take the hubby)

please note:  I love food and I'm partial to some wines - but I'm not a critic so take all my opinions with a grain of salt....   Cheers, Emma

We started the evening with the Nautilus Cuvee Marlborough Brut NV served with absolutely amazing mouthfuls of Havarti cheese mousse with orange apricot marmalade on seeded crackers...... sooo good.  Love my Havarti!

Next up was my favourite wine of the night....  Natutilus Sauvignon Blanc and of course most who know me know that I LOVE Thai... these Thai Fishcakes were served with Naan Jing dipping sauce and an amazing tasty little Chili Lime Prawn.

Venison Carpaccio marinated in a red wine and anise with beetroot discs, horseradish cream and served on a fresh bun... served with Nautilus Pinot Noir  -  now, I've never liked red wines, but I also haven't tried one since late the 90's - wow, not like the heavy rubbery burnt tastes of old.... much better, but still not for me....

Then on to something I've never ever tried, let alone considered....  Ostrich Drum Fillet!!!  marinated in a salsa verde and served with buttercup puree, yoghurt feta sauce and pickled cucumber.
